What started out in the favor of Wales, soon turned around when New Zealand took the upper hand in the second half. The first test in the test series were held on Saturday, June 11th. New Zealand’s winning streak against the Wales rugby team was carried on during the test match. During the first two half tries, Wales matched the score of the new All Blacks team, and took a lead of 18-15 at the matches’ halftime. This score had declared Wales the winners at halftime, but things took a turn when the second halftime began.

While All Black were still behind in the beginning of the second half of the test match, with a score of 21-18, Waisake Naholo was able to score during the second try that was awarded due to a tapped penalty. In the 62nd minute, Naholo was able to prolong the winning streak New Zealand has had over Wales for the past 63 years. This score also turned the tables for the game and put the All Blacks into the winning position of the test match.

Wales did put up a fight once they the All Blacks had a higher score and came in with counterattacks and a better defending strategy. While they did try their best to overcome the new All Blacks, they were not able to get the upper hand again and conceded with five tries to two.

Apart from Waisake Naholo scoring twice, other players such as Julian Savea, Nathan Harris and Kieran Read also performed pretty well on the field and also had their fair share of scoring points for their team, which ultimately lead to the All Blacks 39 vs 21 Wales result being in favor of New Zealand’s All Blacks rugby team.

Even though Wales were not the winners of the test match, they had their moments and were the leaders for a full hour of the entire test match. Rhys Webb and Taulupe Faletae were able to score for Wales during the test match.

With the match being just one of the many matches Wales has lost against the three big teams of the southern hemisphere countries, the last match that Wales won against the All Blacks was way back in 1953. The team at that time were coached by Warren Gatland. Since 1953, Wales was only able to win twice in a total of thirty one games played against these three larger teams.

The task of referee during match was conducted by Wayne Barnes, while assistant referees Jaco Peyper and Will Houston also stood by to support the main referee during the test match. Both New Zealand and Wales had a total of eight replacements each during the match.
