The Springboks will enter 2020 as reigning world champions while being tasked with the burden of defending the Rugby Championship title that they won in the 2019 Rugby World Cup’s eve. With a host of big guns hanging their boots, head coach Rassie Erasmus will look to re-cast his fishing net as he tries to single out the next hits in world rugby.

South Africa will open their 2020 test runs in July when they host Scotland and Georgia before commencing their bid to retain their Rugby Championship trophy later in August. The Boks will then fly to Europe to take part in the 2020 Autumn Internationals in November where they will face Italy, Ireland, and France. Mid-year Internationals 2020

The Springboks will play three home test matches in July 2020. They will face Scotland in a double-header test match before facing tier 2 rugby nation Georgia a week later. This will be the first time that Georgia tours South Africa while it will also be the first time for Scotland to visit South Africa since 2014. South Africa Rugby Union has not confirmed yet the venues and kick-off times of these test matches but we will keep you up to date as soon as they do.

2020 Rugby Championship Tournament

Having won the truncated 2019 Rugby Championship, the Springboks will be looking to reaffirm their reigning champ’s status when they take part in the 2020 edition. They will face New Zealand, Argentina, and Australia in competitive test matches as the battle for bragging rights of the southern hemisphere’s rugby game. In addition to that, the Boks will also be competing for the Freedom Cup with the All Blacks and the Mandela Challenge Plate with the Qantas Wallabies in the same edition of the Rugby Championship.

The Rugby Championship draw is yet to be confirmed but we will notify you as soon as the fixtures are released and the matches confirmed.

2020 Autumn Internationals

South Africa will close the year with interesting clashes in the northern hemisphere in the annual Autumn Internationals that are scheduled to take place in November 2020. The reigning world champions will pay a visit to Italy, Ireland, before winding up their European tour with a trip to France.

2020 can’t be better than 2019 for the Boks but they will be out to reassert their status as the best team in world rugby and they can possibly do that by winning all their games. Moreover, it will be interesting to see how the Siya Kolisi success story inspires the whole South African nation heading into 2020.
